Gran Canaria held the opening event of the 2019 PWA World Tour in the Waves class, with world ranking number 11 Marc Paré going into the event as one of the favourites, specially after spending some weeks of productive training in the Canaries with pretty positive feelings before the event kicked off. The Pozo Izquierdo beach, spot where the Gran Canaria Wind & Wave Festival resumes, it is well-known by Paré, who is used to sail in the sea and wind conditions delivered by that part of the island, so the 21 years old athlete from Manlleu was pretty much looking forward to the event.

Thanks to the ranking of the previous year, Paré didn't have to enter into the water until round 2 of the single elimination. He first faced France's Martin, who could beat with a solid heat. Next rival was Ricardo Campello, the current Vice-World Champion and who would eventually take the victory of the event. Against the Brazilian Paré struggled to put together his best tricks and had then to wait a new opportunity in the double.

Paré came back to competition in round 3 of the double. He started by winning heats against Norieaux and Swift, against who delivered brilliant heats. At this point Paré was staring to build up what was about to become an impressive comeback, and after going through his 3rd heat against Traversa, he then went head-to-head against "Gollito" Estredo, 9 times Freestyle Word Champion. Despite the Venezuelan isn't so used to compete in the Waves class, his amazing talent pushed Paré to the limit while trying to display his best tricks. His performance was incredible, scored the best punctuation of the whole double elimination and left everyone in the beach pretty much amazed.

Accusing the efforts he had to bring during the double, Paré was then beaten by Stone as he struggled to keep up his flow. After that, Paré finally missed the Top 5 by just one spot by finishing in 6th place, his best ever result in a PWA Waves event. A brilliant debut in the opening round of the 2019 campaign that pays off all the efforts and hard work Paré has been putting in not only during the last preseason, but also during the last few years to get closer and closer to his main goals. Progression is excellent: from a 17th in this event two years ago, to a 9th in 2018 to finally a 6th this season. Paré couldn't have started any better his Waves season, which have 3 events remaining being Tenerife the next one from the 5th to the 11th of August.

"Unbelievable day... Finishing 6th after coming back in the double! Finally put some solid heats together, super happy that all the training and hard work is starting to pay off. Thanks to everyone supporting me on the beach and sending me messages. I wanna specially thank my sponsors and my family, without them I wouldn't be able to improve and reach my goals and dreams".
