The 2025 Sylt World Cup brought some of the toughest conditions the PWA World Tour has seen in years, yet Marc Paré secured his second consecutive victory, moving into the overall lead ahead of the season finale in Maui, starting October 13th. Marc has enjoyed an incredible season, highlighted by a five-star win in Tenerife, strong second-place finishes in Chile and Maui, and a fourth-place finish in Pozo.
We caught up with Marc for a couple of quick questions.
Marc, winning in Sylt for the second year in a row is impressive! How did you prepare for the event in Sylt?
I came back from the Canaries at the end of August and spent about three to four weeks around northern Europe, between Denmark, Germany, and Sweden, chasing conditions similar to what I could expect during the event. I’ve been sailing so much in these kinds of conditions lately, and I really enjoy it. For me, it’s exciting to sail in as many different types of conditions as possible, that’s what makes this sport so exciting.

How does Sylt compare to other events on the World Tour?
There’s really no other event like Sylt on tour, mainly because of the huge crowds that come to cheer for us on the beach, it creates such an amazing energy. I heard there were around 200,000 visitors at the event this year, which is super cool! It’s great to see that windsurfing can draw that kind of audience. Sylt is also unique because of the challenging conditions, it’s the North Sea at its rawest. You can get all sorts of conditions there, although it’s usually straight onshore with a heavy, pounding shorebreak. I always look forward to going to Sylt, it’s such a unique event with incredible energy.
What was going through your mind as you tackled those punishing conditions?
I felt comfortable going into Sylt because I had prepared well, lots of training and plenty of time working on my equipment. When you go to Sylt, you know the conditions can be super punishing, so I tried to stay relaxed and just enjoy getting out on the water.
With this win, you’ve taken the lead in the overall PWA rankings heading into Maui. How are you preparing mentally and physically for the final event?
There is not a lot of time to prepare actually. I just got back at the Simmer HQ in Sweden, to repack bags and recharge a little before I head to Maui in two days. I’m really looking forward to get back to Maui and sail some epic conditions for the grand final. It’s been an incredible season, and I’m just so stoked to do what I do.
Your teammate, Moritz Mauch, also did super well in Sylt. What do you think is his super power?
Moritz has been known as one of the best wave riders on tour for many years. He’s so radical yet so relaxed in his wave manoeuvres. Moritz just keeps getting better and better. I really enjoy watching him sail because you never know what crazy move he’s going to pull off.
Good luck on Maui Marc! Go Marc! Go Moritz!
