The Flywave has earned a reputation asย  a top level high performance wave board for professionals and high level sailor at the best spots aroundย  the world, but it is equally well liked by intermediates and in less than perfect conditions. The legacy of the Flywave goes back to a rocker developed for Kai Katchadourianโ€™s Peahi board. Theย  winger-swallow based outline was developed together with Marc Parรฉ, who is now back on the team.ย  The constant curve rocker provides a lot of support under the mast foot which is what contributes to the enormous speed range of the Flywave. The wingered outline combined an ability to finish the bottom turn up in a vertical style with a good grip off the top.

In the G7 Flywave development we have for the first time in some years made a few shape updates. The first update concerns the tail length. As some will have noticed, the G6 Flywave 72 and 99 already sports a bit shorter, and hence wider looking tails, than the rest of the bunch. For the G7, the 78 and 84 gets the same shortened tail and to some degree also the 90. The shorter tail makes the board snappier in the bottom turn, allowing it to go even more vertical while also giving the board a better flow in the top turn. The 98 instead gets a tiny bit longer and narrower tail, to add early planing support for bigger guys and bigger sails.

We have also developed a new size, the Flywave 107 L. During our prototyping process the 107 has been getting rave reviews, both from heavy sailors and mid weight sailor wanting a real floaty board.

The second change incorporated in all sizes is a new bottom shape layout in the rear of the board.ย  After several years of development our board designer, Ola Helenius, he has come up with a brand new Flywave design which uses the same central rockers as before, but has an increased and accelerated vee in the tail as well as a deepened tunnel concave inside the vee. Essentially, these two changes balances each other out.ย  Both features increases the tail rocker along the rail and inside the concave respectively, but while the increased rail rocker gives the board a faster rail to rail feel and a slashier turn, the tunnel concave instead adds stability on rail.ย

The tail refinements in combination extends the range of different top turns the G7 Flywaveย  performs in and give the rider even more options regarding what kind of lines he or she wants to draw on the wave.ย  Essentially, the board now has a bit more projection and tracking when the sailor puts the power down, but also reacts quicker in transition between turns.

Winged swallow tail

With a reduced area behind the back foot strap, this design creates a precise release in the critical section of a wave, letting you drive even more vertically. The result is faster rail-to-rail transitions and a powerful, explosive top turn that commands attention

Contours

An efficient rocker with a progressive Vee with a low-drag midsection for vee that will easily generate speed down the line top-speed. The curved sections of the rocker allow riders from the intermediate to experts to drive through their turns with confidence.

Dual-Density EVA Foot Pads
Dual-density EVA pads, 4 MM high density top layer with diamond grip + heat pressed dots for superhero traction. The new pads feature a 8 MM soft core heal bumper for maximum riding comfort + tail kick.

Double Screw Inserts
Double footstrap inserts for maximum load and adjustable stance settings for tighter or personal preferences to either 14.5 cm or 15.5 cm for the front straps or 14 cm or 15 cm width for the back foot strap.

SELF REGULATING GORETEX ยฉ AIRVENT

The Flywave comes standard with a self-regulating Goretex ยฉ Air vent which allows air to pass back and forth between the foam core and the exterior of the board, whilst being completely waterproof. The double-layer membrane of Goretex on either side of a rubber O-ring prevents pressure build-up inside the board, minimizing the risk of delamination caused by overpressure inside the board even during a flight. Youโ€™ll never need to unscrew an air vent screw again.

STANDARD FIN SETUP // QUAD

Equipped with a quad fin setup, the Flywave G6 rides with more grip and control at higher wave riding speeds. The power of the fin cluster acts further forward, which drives the front rail into the water and gives the board added control in drawn out turns. At the same time, the shorter depth of the two rear fins makes it easier to set the rail at high speeds which means that the board feels more responsive in fast side shore or cross offshore conditions and in any situations where containment of speed trumps production of drive.

ALTERNATIV FIN SETUP // TRI

On the wave, the Tri Fin setup will give you the best possible projection and drive in turns, assisting the sailor in drawing aggressive turns in fast clean waves as well as in keeping speed through the bottom turn in less powerful waves. The Tri Fin setup will provide early planing, great upwind tracking, and ease of sailing while still providing a insanely tight turning radius. Versatile and snappy with a dependable reliability are the main characteristics of this setup.

Carbon slotbox fins
The construction features a carbon/fiberglass exterior, molded with a laminated infusion process onto a Airex foam core structure. This makes the fin extremely lightweight while maintaining strength and stiffness. The Simmer Style composite fins are one of the lightest wave fins on the market; they weigh half the weight compared to traditional G10 fins.

Custom Built Carbon Fin Boxes
Our custom-built fin boxes are manufactured from high-density PVC Airex and carbon, which makes them extremely strong and lightweight. This is what allows us to use 5 x slotboxes without adding too much weight.

Rider Comments

Ben Proffitt

The Flywave is the best production waveboard I have ever been on, and the G7 is no exception! The shape just works. It's as simple as that. It's perfect for my style of sailing, and it works in all wave conditions. I use the 78 and 85 a lot, but even the 98 has a hell of a turn, and I'm 80 kg's. I don't know anyone who has tried it, who doesn't love it. It's a gem!

Kai Katchadourian

Worldwide go-to wave board capable of performing in anything from epic to less than ideal conditions. Low entry rocker / spiral vee combination provides early planing, and precise, decisive turns. The Flywave perform so well itโ€™s hard to believe itโ€™s a production board.

Mare Parรฉ Rico

The Flywave is amazingly versatile and fast. It accelerates effortlessly, and you can push it to its limits while always trusting the rail to hold. Without a doubt, itโ€™s one of the best boards Iโ€™ve ever ridden. The construction is top-notch tooโ€”Iโ€™ve never broken a production board so far and I've tried really hard.
