The Simmer Team Delivers Fireworks

The 2025 Rhosneigr Wave Classic—Round 4 of the UK Wave Tour—brought riders face to face in cranking Welsh conditions. With only Tiree and West Wittering left to complete the six-stop series, every heat here mattered.

Challenging, But So Worth It

Friday kicked off with a strong WSW breeze, pretty much straight onshore. Tricky? Definitely. But that also meant riders could score jumps and waves on both tacks, putting style and adaptability to the test. The Pro Men smashed through their single elimination while the Pro Women wrapped up theirs. By Saturday, it was time for the Amateurs, Youths, and Masters to hit the water, with the Pro Women and Youths also pushing into their doubles.

Pro Men: Rivalry Renewed

The Men’s final had all the makings of a classic: long-time rivals and more importantly, Simmer team mates; Ben Proffitt and Phil Horrocks, joined by Andy Chambers and Lukas Meldrum. In a nail-biting showdown, Proffitt edged out Horrocks by just 0.5 of a point to take the the win.

Ben’s fast, vertical turns and slick wave tricks gave him the edge. Importantly, he was riding a Quantex 92 Quad borrowed straight from the Simmer Test Centre at Funsport in Rhosneigr, paired with a 5.0 Blacktip, SX10 mast, and Wide Tail Simmer boom, a setup that proved devastatingly effective.

Phil was equally dialed on his Quantex 92 Quad, powered by the 5.3 Blacktip, and matching SX10 hardware. It was a battle of inches, and this time, Ben came out on top.

Pro Women: Cori McFarlane Dominates

In the Pro Women’s fleet, Cori McFarlane was untouchable. Combining aggressive wave riding with solid jumps,  she stormed her way to victory. Riding the Flywave 78 with 4.5 and 4.7 Blacktips, rigged on SX10 masts and booms.

Youth on the Rise

The Youths fleet saw Samuel Wade claim 3rd, but his performance hinted at much more. Throwing forward loops on both tacks and laying down snappy, powerful turns, Samuel made his mark. His gear of choice; Flywave 78, Quantex 85, and Blacktips (5.0 & 4.7), was tuned for precision, and it showed.

Looking Ahead

With results locked in, Phil Horrocks and Cori McFarlane now carry commanding leads into Tiree in mid-October. But with conditions as unpredictable as the North Atlantic, nothing is guaranteed, and the battle for tour dominance is only heating up.

Congratulations to the Simmer Team!
Huge respect to Ben Proffitt, Phil Horrocks, Cori McFarlane, and Samuel Wade for flying the Simmer flag high at the 2025 Rhosneigr Wave Classic.
